We see it all around us -- the written
word is everywhere. As a child we
learn to read and write through our "environmental print".
Our first visual symbol of the "M" sound for our mother
may have been learned from a screaming bright red and
yellow sign above a fast-food restaurant.
Eventually we become aware of color, texture,
shape and beauty. As we notice subtleties in hue and form
we find that we have a visceral reaction to them.
That is the power of calligraphy.
